UN Chief Wants Unified Action on NK Launch

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he hopes the U.N. Security Council will produce a concerted message on North Korea’s rocket launch.

Returning from his European tour on Tuesday, Ban said related discussions are under way in the council.

The UN chief said that, as a former South Korean foreign minister, he could be of help in resolving the current situation involving the North’s launch if the matter becomes his duty to handle. But Ban stressed that he is still waiting on the council's official decision.

The U.N. chief added that a statement expressing "regret" over the launch has already been issued by the Security Council.
