Radio Free Asia says the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has played down North Korea’s claim that a satellite it successfully launched into orbit is transmitting.

The U.S. government-funded broadcaster quoted an ITU spokesman as saying that there are no signs of the North’s Gwangmyeongseong-Two experimental communications satellite in orbit nor have any related transmissions been picked up.

According to the report, the spokesman said the ITU never assigned a 470 megahertz frequency to the North, refuting a claim made by Pyongyang, and that other member countries have not reported any signal interruptions on that frequency.
