China says it does not want to discuss North Korea's rocket launch at an upcoming trilateral summit meeting with South Korea and Japan.

China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue told reporters Wednesday that the rocket launch issue is too specific and China doesn't think it should be part of discussions at the trilateral meeting. But he did not rule out the possibility of the issue coming up in bilateral talks.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso will meet Sunday on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus Three Summit in Pattaya, Thailand.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made clear that his country is against the imposition of further sanctions on the North for its rocket launch. He said that while the North’s launch clearly sparked concerns and is undermining stability in Northeast Asia, imposing sanctions could bring about adverse effects.
