Japan is seeking a unified statement at the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations Plus Three Summit denouncing the launch of a rocket by North Korea.

A working-level South Korean official said Japan submitted a draft of the statement to chair country Thailand on Friday.

The official added that Seoul is supportive of Tokyo’s move but the North Korean embassy in Bangkok has voiced vehement opposition to the adoption of any statement condemning Pyongyang for its launch.
