Protests Force Cancellation of ASEAN summit

President Lee Myung-bak will return home from Thailand a day earlier than expected after the Thai government called off a meeting of the members of the Association for Southeast Asian Nations.

The ASEAN Plus Three summit has been postponed indefinitely amid anti-government protests in Pattaya, the coastal city where the leaders were set to meet.

Some one-thousand supporters of ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra broke through barricades surrounding the hotel hosting the summit and blocked all entrances, keeping delegations and leaders from reaching the venue.
