Korean Dramas Regaining Popularity in China

The popularity of Korean television dramas is rising in China.

According to the South Korean Embassy in Beijing, the Chinese government has approved the import of 29 Korean television dramas.

The figure is the same as in 2005 when the popularity of Korean television programs peaked in China thanks to the historical drama "Daejanggeum (Jewel in the Palace)." Since then, their popularity has been on a downward trend.

Last year, programs from Korea accounted for almost 24 percent of the shows imported by China, placing the nation in a two-way tie with Taiwan and one spot lower than the leader, Hong Kong.
