A Korean American was shot dead by police in California on Sunday after attacking officers as they attempted to enter his room.

According to a police spokeswoman in Folsom, California, 24-year-old Joseph Han was shot dead after he attacked the officers with a knife.

The spokeswoman said Han’s family called in police as the man was hallucinating, hadn’t eaten for days, and was locked up in his room armed with the knife.

Disputes over the possible use of excessive force by the authorities are likely to arise as Han had been tasered twice before he was shot.

The recent incident comes just two days after a Korean-American woman, Susie Young Kim, was, according to police, shot dead by officers in Santa Ana near Los Angeles after fleeing from police in her car at speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour in a chase that lasted 30 minutes. Kim’s 13-month-old daughter was in the car at the time but was unharmed.
