The U.N. Sanctions Committee has begun preparations for the drafting of a list of North Korean goods and entities to be sanctioned in the wake of its April fifth rocket launch.
The State Department said the Sanctions Committee met Thursday to discuss implementing the U.N. Security Council presidential statement which calls for the enforcement of existing sanctions against the North.
According to the department, the committee agreed that sanctions on two categories will be enforced --- one on goods, the other on entities.
The department said the committee will use the sanctions to prevent the flow of goods that could be used to support the North’s nuclear program. As for entities, those included on the list will be banned from supporting and supplying the North with various technologies related to its nuclear program.
The United States has submitted to the committee its own list of North Korean entities it suggests should face sanctions.
