Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has briefed the White House on his recent trip to North Korea.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday that President Barack Obama spoke briefly with Clinton earlier on Wednesday about the visit. Gibbs said the former president has also been discussing the trip with National Security Council officials since Wednesday.
Gibbs added that there will be an official briefing on the issue but that no detailed information on topics discussed thus far can be disclosed at the present time.
Clinton reportedly met with North Korean Kim Jong-il for more than three hours as part of efforts to secure the release of two detained U.S. journalists. The two leaders reportedly shared views on various issues, including the North’s nuclear standoff.
Clinton returned home on Wednesday with two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who had been detained by the North since March for entering the nation illegally.
