ABC News says former U.S. President Bill Clinton told North Korean leader Kim Jong-il that Pyongyang’s nuclear program will not ensure the safety of the North but will continue to lead to further international isolation.

ABC News was quoting a source Thursday briefed on the Clinton-Kim meeting.

The source added that Clinton emphasized to Kim the importance of freeing the Japanese abductees and South Korean detainees currently held captive by the communist state.
