The U.S. government has reportedly turned down all American requests for imports of North Korean goods in the past year.

Radio Free Asia quoted a Treasury Department official as saying Saturday that the department received more than ten import requests for North Korean products during the past 13 months, all of which the department denied.

U.S. individuals and companies looking to import North Korean goods must get approval from the Office of Foreign Assets Control under the Treasury Department in line with an order issued by the president.

Notre Dame Professor George Lopez, an expert on financial sanctions, said the U.S. government will continue to reject requests for North Korean imports unless Washington’s relations with Pyongyang drastically improve.
