UN Chief to Visit S.Korea for 10 Days

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will depart for an unofficial visit to South Korea on Saturday.

Ban’s spokeswoman Michele Montas said Ban will be in his homeland for ten days.

During his stay, Ban will meet with President Lee Myung-bak to discuss various international issues, including climate change. Ban will also meet with Prime Minister Han Seung-soo and Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan to share views on regional issues, including North Korea’s nuclear standoff.

Ban will also attend the 39th World Federation of U.N. Associations Plenary Assembly that opens in Seoul on Monday and the Global Environment Forum 2009 that will open in Incheon on Tuesday. He also plans to take part in the fifth Jeju Peace Forum on Thursday.
