India Probes NK Ship for Nuke Traces

Written: 2009-08-11 07:59:37Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Reuters News and BBC say the Indian government has mobilized scientists to determine whether any nuclear material is onboard the North Korean ship it seized last Friday.

The Indian Coast Guard detained a "suspicious" North Korean ship, the MV Musen, off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after a six-hour chase.

A local police officer says no radioactive substance has been found on the ship as of now but that inspections will continue until they reach a satisfactory conclusion.

India’s seizure of the vessel and search for nuclear material is due to “definite reports” from intelligence that North Korea was transferring materials to Myanmar to help it build a nuclear reactor.
