A U.S. delegation coordinating the effective implementation of U.N. sanctions against North Korea will visit major Asian countries, including South Korea, next week.
Philip Goldberg, the State Department's point man on coordinating implementation of the sanctions, said in a news briefing Thursday that he will lead a delegation of officials from the Treasury Department, National Security Council and the Pentagon for the upcoming trip. The delegation is scheduled to visit South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
Goldberg said his delegation will focus on working closely with allies and partners to achieve denuclearization of North Korea through irreversible steps and to implement U.N. security resolutions on North Korea.
Goldberg said the U.S. officials will also address views on land, sea and air cargo inspections and share information on cases where sanctions under the U.N. resolutions were imposed.
Goldberg added that his delegation is hoping for a meeting with China as early as the end of August, although a date for such a meeting has not been finalized.
