Japanese Politician Grieves over Ex-President’s Death

Japan's Democratic Party(DJP) leader Yukio Hatoyama has expressed deep grief over the death of former president Kim Dae-jung.

Hatoyama issued a statement Tuesday saying former president Kim Dae-jung was a beacon for South Korea's democratization and contributed greatly to the nation's modernization, adding that he could not contain his sorrow over the news of Kim's death.

The DJP chief said the late former president had strong ties with Japan, and during his presidency, he greatly contributed to boosting private exchanges between the two countries.

Hatoyama also expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and all South Korean citizens, saying he commends all of Kim's achievements and prays that he may rest in peace.
