NK Releases American Activist

Korean-American human rights activist Robert Park has been released by North Korea 43 days after illegally entering the communist country. He arrived in Beijing on Saturday morning, local time.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley said in a regular news briefing Friday that North Korea notified the U.S. and the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang of its plan to release Park.

The Swedish embassy represents U.S. consular interests in the North.

The 29-year-old crossed the Tumen River on the China-North Korea border into the reclusive state on December 25th in an alleged attempt to shed light on human rights violations in the North.
