Australia Shifts to Skilled Migration Visa System

Written: 2010-02-08 14:09:18Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship has decided to tighten immigration rules.

The department announced Monday its decision to revoke its Migration Occupations in Demand List and cancel visa reviews for foreigners who have applied for immigration to Australia under the country’s General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa program.

As a result, 20-thousand foreigners who filed GSM applications before September 2007 will not be granted visas.

The Australian government will replace the current GSM visa review system with a more specific program for skilled occupations by April.
