NK Envoy: Extensive Discussions Held on 6-Way Talks

North Korea’s top nuclear envoy says he and Chinese officials have held extensive discussions on the six-way nuclear talks and Pyongyang’s wish to replace the Korean War armistice with a peace treaty.

Kim Kye-kwan, who arrived in China on Tuesday, made the statement in Beijing late Thursday.

However, Kim neglected to elaborate any further on his meetings with Chinese officials, saying only that the results of his trip will be revealed at a later date.

Kim’s remarks suggest that Beijing and Pyongyang may have made progress on key issues as Kim, who had kept his agenda in Beijing under a veil, directly mentioned that his meetings with Chinese officials touched on the six-nation talks.

Kim and his delegation will hold additional working-level talks with Chinese officials on Friday before returning home Saturday.
