China to Develop Tourist Route to Pyongyang

China is seeking to develop a new tourism route which will include stops in North Korea’s Pyongyang and the truce village of Panmunjeom.

The tourism department of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture said Friday that it is developing a tourist route linking China's northeastern border city of Hunchun to the North's Najin, Pyongyang and Panmunjeom via Vladivostok and Mount Baekdu.

A department official said that to that end, the prefecture plans to join hands with South Korean national carriers as well as Chinese airlines.

Another official said that North Korea, hoping to attract more Chinese tourists, is showing keen interest in the plan.

Last year, China and North Korea agreed to jointly develop the North's Najin Port as an international trade complex.
