The South Korean ambassador to the United Nations says the U.N. Security Council has no plans to ease sanctions on North Korea for now.

Ambassador Park In-kook told reporters in Seoul on Friday that the Security Council will decide on whether to ease or lift sanctions on the North in line with progress made in Pyongyang’s denuclearization efforts.

Park said concerned parties and the Security Council would begin discussions on the sanctions once the North takes significant, tangible measures toward nuclear dismantlement at the six-way nuclear talks.

Park said though it’s hard to gauge the effects of U.N. sanctions imposed on the North, the sanctions are assessed to be yielding effective results.
