Gov't to Provide Safety Measures for Koreans in Guatemala

The government has decided to draw up safety measures for Korean residents in Guatemala following the murder of a Korean businessman in the Central American country last month.

A Foreign Ministry official who was sent to Guatemala to draft such measures said Saturday that the government plans to help install closed-circuit TVs in regions that house a large Korean population. The government also plans to provide computers that would be installed in police cars for real-time monitoring.

Currently, some 10-thousand Koreans are estimated to reside in Guatemala. Last year, six Koreans were killed amid unstable security conditions.
