NK Leader Meets Top Chinese Official

China's state-run CCTV says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on Thursday met with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

CCTV reported that Kim and Dai Bingguo reached a consensus on bilateral relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula after candid and in-depth talks. The two are believed to have discussed the North's recent artillery attack on South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island.

Earlier on the day, the top Chinese official met with North Korea's Vice Premier Kang Sok-ju to discuss the China-proposed resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.

Dai Bingguo, who arrived in the North Wednesday, returned to Beijing on Thursday.
