Top South and North Korean officials are reportedly planning to visit Russia next week amid mounting tensions in the region that have resulted from the North’s artillery attack on Yeonpyeong Island last month.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Friday that North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun and South Korea’s chief nuclear envoy Wi Sung-lac have visits planned to Moscow next week.

The ministry said Moscow is holding active discussions with related countries to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula, adding that the discussions are focused on preventing further conflicts on the peninsula and on seeking ways to improve relations.
