The incoming chair of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee has urged the Obama administration to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

In a statement Friday, Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said that she supports strong sanctions and other penalties against those who aid violent extremists, brutalize their own people, and have time and time again rejected calls to behave as responsible nations.

She said that North Korea's unacceptable provocations have sharply raised tension on the Korean Peninsula and that the North should be put back on the black list to show U.S. commitment to preventing further provocations.

She said that the decision to drop North Korea from the list in 2008 was made hastily.
