A school in China attended by renowned Korean poet Yun Jong-ju and film director Na Un-kyu has been restored after some eight decades.

An Internet media site operated by ethnic Koreans in China said Monday that the one-year restoration of the Myeongdong School in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture had been completed.

The school in Longjing was rebuilt on the same lot where the old school had stood and was constructed in line with original blueprints.

The Myeongdong School was first built in 1908 by independence fighters as a modern education institution. Until it closed in 1925 in the face of repression from Japanese imperialists, the school produced some 12-hundred graduates, including Korea’s first fighter pilot, Seo Wal-bo.
