Russia has again condemned North Korea for its artillery attack on South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island last month.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed concerns over mounting military and political tensions on the Korean Peninsula when he met with his North Korean counterpart Pak Ui-chun in Moscow on Monday.

The ministry said Lavrov also made it clear that his country believes Pyongyang should be criticized for its artillery attack on Yeonpyeong, which resulted in the death of two South Korean soldiers and two civilians. On the day of the North’s shelling November 23rd, Russia swiftly issued a statement and denounced the North’s attack.

Also during their meeting, Lavrov reportedly expressed concerns over reports that the North has built new uranium enrichment facilities in Yongbyon. He urged Pyongyang to abide by U.N. resolutions.

Pak is on a four-day trip to Russia. He arrived in Moscow on Sunday.
