US Delegation to Visit Beijing Wednesday

A U.S. delegation led by Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will visit Beijing on Wednesday.

During their four-day stay, the U.S. officials will meet with State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

The officials are expected to focus on coordinating key topics that their leaders will discuss during an upcoming summit meeting, as Chinese President Hu Jintao is set to visit Washington next month.

The officials will also likely discuss mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula in the wake of North Korea’s revelation of a uranium enrichment program and its artillery attack on South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island.

The U.S. delegation includes Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, U.S. nuclear envoy Sung Kim and Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council Jeff Bader.
