Le Figaro: Expected Success for Korean Pop Concert in Paris

A leading French daily says a planned concert by top Korean pop (K-pop) singers in France looks to be a success.

Le Figaro said Friday that top K-pop stars have won the hearts of French youth, adding that the pop movement is set to take over Europe after having enjoyed strong popularity in Asia. The daily said Paris is serving as a bridgehead for new-generation Korean singers.

The paper said advance tickets for “SM Town Live Tour” sold out in just 15 minutes. The report noted that the concert comes after hundreds of French fans held a rally in front of the Louvre Museum last month urging for more K-pop concerts.

The report said Korean pop culture, or “hallyu,” has taken Asia by storm since 2006 and has overpowered Japanese pop music.

The concert will take part on Friday and Saturday and will include performances by groups Girls’ Generation, Shinee and Super Junior.
