UNSC Adopts Resolution Recommending Ban's Reappointment

The U.N. Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution that recommends current Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon be reappointed for a second term as U.N. Chief

In a closed door session on Friday, the 15-member council adopted the resolution by a vote of acclamation.

Ban, who is a former South Korean foreign minister, has begun drawing up a blueprint for his second five-year term that will begin on the first of next year, if he’s reappointed.

The 192-member U.N. General Assembly will vote on Ban’s appointment on Tuesday.
