China has welcomed Ban Ki-moon's reelection as U.N. secretary-general.

Immediately after the U.N. General Assembly approved Ban's reelection Tuesday, China issued a statement embracing the assembly's decision.

Chinese spokesman Hong Lei said that in dealing with global conflicts, Secretary-General Ban contributed to enhancing the pivotal role of the United Nations.

He said that China will continue to support Ban and U.N. operations.
