NK, Russia Preparing to Hold Summit in Russia's Far East

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are reportedly planning to hold their first summit later this month or early next month in the Russian Far East.

According to local sources on Friday, Pyongyang and Moscow are considering opening the meeting around next Thursday in the outskirts of Vladivostok or in the Russian city of Khasan near the Russia-North Korea border.

It is uncertain whether the reclusive North Korean leader will actually visit Russia given that he did not make such visits previously despite Russia’s preparations to receive him.

If the summit is realized, Kim would be visiting Russia for the first time in nine years. He previously held talks in 2002 with then President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok.
