Russia is reportedly mulling constructing a gas pipeline that would go through China's northeastern provinces and North Korea, reaching South Korea.
Following energy talks held via video conferencing with China on Tuesday, President of Russian Gas Society Valery Yazev said that the envisioned project has now become more feasible as the North recently expressed its intent to participate in the endeavor.
Russia’s gas supply to the two Koreas is expected to be discussed at a summit between North Korea and Russia set for early next month.
The South Korean government signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia in 2008 during President Lee's visit to Moscow to build a pipeline and deliver Russian natural gas via China and North Korea. However, Pyeongyang was lukewarm towards the multinational project until now.
