Second Vice Foreign Minister Min Dong-seok says the international community must demonstrate a united and resolute front to North Korea regarding the North’s nuclear program.
Min said in his keynote address at the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) in Daejeon on Wednesday that North Korea’s uranium enrichment program (UEP) is a clear violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions. He said that the international community must urge North Korea to abandon all nuclear programs, including the UEP, and cease all related activities.
Min also said that South Korea will work toward resuming dialogue alongside its efforts to deter North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons. The vice minister said that with inter-Korean dialogue as an essential starting point, South Korea will cooperate with members of the six-party talks to confirm North Korea's sincerity toward denuclearization
Roughly two-hundred participants of the GICNT from 82 member nations and international organizations under the U.N. met at this week’s gathering. They agreed to establish a team to identify and detect nuclear facilities for the next two years.
