Gimpo-Beijing Route Launches Friday

The Gimpo-Beijing airline route has reopened after being out of service for a decade.

The Korea Airports Corporation said four airlines, including Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and Air China will operate a total of eight flights, or two round trips per day for each airline, on the route.

The corporation said the Gimpo-Beijing route, which runs over downtown Seoul, is at maximum two hours and thirty minutes shorter than the Incheon-Beijing flight plan. The corporation predicts that more than 450-thousand travelers will use the route this year alone.

Gimpo International Airport halted all international flights in 2001 after the Incheon International Airport opened in 2001. However, due to increased demand for urban airport travel, Gimpo has been adding international routes, mainly to Japan and China. It opened the Gimpo-Haneda route in 2003.
