China has congratulated South Korea on winning the bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei stated at a regular news briefing on Thursday that the nation offers its best wishes to South Korea for Pyeongchang’s successful hosting of the event.

Chinese media, including Xinhua and CCTV, sent reporters to South Korea's Pyeongchang and Durban in South Africa to closely cover the International Olympic Committee’s announcement of the host city.
