Beijing Hyundai Motor Company says its cumulative auto production has topped three million units.

The company, Hyundai Motor’s joint venture in China, on Wednesday held a ceremony marking the production of its three millionth vehicle at its plant in Shunyi District in Beijing.

In the ceremony, company president Noh Jae-man said that the landmark number is a measurement of auto makers’ competence, adding Beijing Hyundai is preparing to make a new leap forward.

Beijing Hyundai is the fifth auto maker in China to reach the milestone after Yiqi Volkswagen, Shanghai Volkswagen, Shanghai GM and Chery Automobile. The record was achieved nine years after the firm produced its first vehicle in December 2002.
