The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reportedly said that the number of North Koreans in need of humanitarian food aid is estimated at six million.

By region, the number of residents in need of aid is estimated at one-point-four million in South Hamgyeong Province, one million in North Hamgyeong and 660-thousand in Gangwon. Meanwhile, Ryanggang and Jagang provinces reportedly have the highest rate of malnutrition.
