A North Korean company has proposed talks on the issue of settling South Korean assets inside the North's Mount Geumgang tourism district.
In an interview with South Korea's Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday, the head of North Korea's Taepung International Investment Group said that his company was granted with rights to develop the Geumgang district. Park Chul-soo also stressed that the disposal of the assets at the mountain owned by South Korea's Hyundai Asan must be resolved through talks between the concerned parties.
While pointing out that Taepung Group is the channel for talks regarding purely the economic development of the Mount Geumgang district, Park proposed talks with Hyundai Asan to settle the asset issue.
Park said that personal property is protected under the North's special law governing the tourism distrct. Citing the law, Park said that a unilateral disposal of the assets by the North is out of the question.
North Korea's Taepung International Investment Group is the channel for attracting foreign investment to North Korea.
