S. Korea, Vietnam Welcome Results of Research on Nuke Power Plant

President Lee Myung-bak held a summit with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang in Seoul on Tuesday and adopted a joint statement on bilateral cooperation.

Lee and the Vietnamese President, who is currently on a state visit to South Korea, said in the statement that they welcome the results of joint research that the two countries carried out as part of a plan to build a Korean-style nuclear power plant in Vietnam.

In addition, both nations decided to push for collaborative follow-up projects based on South Korea’s proposals to use its technology to develop nuclear power in Vietnam, train personnel, and transfer technology.

The two leaders agreed to move up their previously agreed to schedule to reach a bilateral trade volume of 20-billion dollars by 2015. They also decided to expand the volume of their trade to 30-billion dollars.

Lee and the Vietnamese leader also said they would make efforts to bolster bilateral economic and trade ties based on successful joint research concluded in October on establishing a bilateral free trade agreement.
