KBS President Elected to Lead ABU

Korean Broadcasting System President Kim In-kyu has been elected to lead the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

In the 48th ABU General Assembly in New Deli, India on Tuesday, Kim was elected President of the union with unanimous approval by representatives from some 50 ABU member broadcasters. Kim was the sole candidate up for the post, and his election marks the first time a KBS official has been chosen to lead the broadcasting union.

Kim pledged active efforts to help underdeveloped countries win the right to broadcast major sports events and to seek joint production among members.

Many delegates from Asia Pacific broadcasters visited a booth KBS set up in the conference hall and showed a keen interest the display of South Korean pop culture.

The next ABU General Assembly will be held in Seoul in October next year.
