Japanese Gov’t Advises Soccer Fans Against Sightseeing in NK

The Japanese government has requested a group of Japanese soccer fans planning to attend a match with North Korea in Pyongyang to refrain from sightseeing during their stay.

At a news conference, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura Osamu asked the group of roughly 150 soccer fans not to tour locations other than the sports venue when they are in Pyongyang. The match, a regional qualifier for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will be held on Tuesday.

The Japanese government has asked its citizens to refrain from visiting North Korea since it put economic sanctions against the North into place in response to missile tests it conducted in 2006.
