Clinton: US Awaiting Reply from N. Korea

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says North Korea must take concrete steps toward denuclearization to resume the six-party dialogue.

According to a U.S. State Department transcript disclosed Sunday, Clinton told reporters Friday in Hawaii where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is being held that the U.S. is awaiting a reply from the North regarding the nuclear issue.

Clinton said the U.S. updated its partners on the exploratory talks the U.S. had with North Korea two weeks ago in Geneva. She said Washington made clear what it expects North Korea to do in order to get back to talks, including concrete steps toward denuclearization.

She said the North must comply with its commitments under the 2005 joint statement of the six-party talks, relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions and the armistice agreement.
