S.Korea, Saudi Arabia Sign Agreement on Nuke Power Cooperation

Saudi Arabia has signed a bilateral agreement with South Korea on cooperation in nuclear power.

Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and President of the King Abdullah City of Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Hashim Bin Abdullah Yamani signed the agreement at the ministry's head office in Seoul on Tuesday morning.

Saudi Arabia, which has the world’s largest oil reserves, has expressed an active interest in building a nuclear power plant.

This agreement will likely serve as a legal basis for South Korean nuclear power-related exports to Saudi Arabia, which currently has no nuclear power plants. It also contains provision on collaborating in the research and development of nuclear power, in addition to the design, development, and operation of nuclear power plants.
