S. Korean Awarded Best Woman Student Filmmaker by DGA

A South Korean has been named Best Woman Student Filmmaker by the Directors Guild of America.

Kim Bora captured the award for her short-film “The Recorder Exam” during the 17th Annual Directors Guild of America Student Film Awards. Kim is an M.F.A. candidate in Film at Columbia University, School of the Arts.

Kim is the first South Korean in seven years to receive a Directors Guild of America Student Film award after Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed “Crucible.”

“The Recorder Exam” is a 28-minute film that tells the story of a nine-year-old girl who is preparing for her recorder exam. The film is assessed to have well-depicted family conflicts and a child’s coming of age in South Korea's society during the 1980s.
