French Univ. Opens Korean-style Garden

The first university to establish a Korean language and studies department in France has opened a Korean-style garden.

Some 200 people took part in a ceremony marking the opening of the garden in the central building of University Paris 7 on Tuesday. Korea Foundation President Kim Byung-kook, former French Culture Minister Jacque Lang and South Korea’s Ambassador to France Park Heung-shin were in attendance.

The garden is around 150 square meters and took three years to complete. It has a pine tree at the center and is surrounded by a fence that has drawing of a tiger and ten traditional symbols of longevity.

The university has around 100 students enrolled in Korean language and studies department.
