UN Chief Promises Full Support for Flood-hit Thailand

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has visited Thailand and offered his consolation for its victims of recent heavy flooding.

The U.N. chief met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in Thailand Wednesday afternoon and promised that the U.N. will stand ready to do everything possible to help the country recover from the floods that lasted more than three months.

Following the meeting, the two leaders held a joint news conference and announced that the U.N. and the Thai government will establish a close cooperation system to overcome natural disasters.

The U.N. secretary-general said the Thai people will overcome the flooding, adding he believes that the international community will actively support the Thai government in recovery efforts.
