ASEAN+3 Holds Summit

Leaders of South Korea, China, Japan and the ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have held a summit in Bali, Indonesia to discuss regional economic and political issues.

A diplomatic source in Indonesia said that the summit would focus on regional economy and food security as well as Myanmar’s steps for democracy and North Korea’s nuclear program.

In the ASEAN summit held on Thursday, the leaders approved Myanmar's bid to chair the association in 2014, noting a progress in Myanmar’s reforms toward democracy.

The leaders of South Korea, China, Japan and the ASEAN will attend on Saturday the East Asia Summit, a gathering of 18 countries, including the United States and Russia.
