3 Dead in Anti-Military Protests in Egypt

Confrontation escalates between Egypt’s ruling military council and citizens, resulting in heavy casualties in Cairo's Tahrir Square.

Egyptian state media and foreign news outlets say one protester died after being shot by a rubber bullet during a clash with police on Sunday local time. As of 5 a.m. Korea time, two more have died and some 600 people are injured, with the numbers increasing with each passing hour.

Thousands of protesters are engaged in fierce protests, demanding that commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces Mohamed Hussein Tantawi step down.

Earlier this month, the military council proposed ground rules for drafting the constitution that could leave the military free of parliament control.

Civic forces are concerned that the military may not hand over its ruling authority to the civilians and instead will continue to stay in power.
