USTR Hopes to Bring FTA Into Force as Soon as Possible

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk says he will work to swiftly put the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement (FTA) into effect.

Kirk’s remark came after the National Assembly in Seoul passed a bill on ratifying the trade deal on Tuesday.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Kirk said the United States welcomes the Korean parliament’s approval of the trade deal.

Calling the trade deal “a win-win agreement,” Kirk said the accord will bring about significant benefits, economic as well as strategic, to the two nations. He added that he looks forward to closely cooperating with Seoul “to bring the agreement into force as soon as possible.”
