Obama, EU Leaders to Discuss Europe's Debt Crisis

U.S. President Barack Obama and top officials of the European Union will discuss the euro zone’s fiscal crisis during a summit next week.

During the one-day summit at the White House on Monday, Obama is expected to discuss with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

U.S. Ambassador to the EU William Kennard on Tuesday told reporters that Obama is expected to offer some ideas and suggestions to help Europe resolve the fiscal crisis, such as creating a "firewall" to contain the crisis or recapitalizing banks.

During the G20 summit in Cannes early this month, Obama met leaders of France and Germany to discuss ways to overcome the euro zone’s debt crisis, offering some guidance on how the U.S. tided over its financial troubles in 2008.
